With regard to the issue of the private educational institutions charging fees amidst the pandemic still pending in the court, the Odisha Department of school and Mass Education has submitted a report to the High Court putting forth a fee waiver slab up to 30 percent.
Senior officials from the department have stated that a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed for the fee waiver by 4 members who have agreed for the fee waiver of fee at a flat rate. The officials have also stated that the waiver will only be applicable after the High Court issues its decision.
According to reports, a fee waiver of 7.5 percent has been proposed for a fee slab of Rs. 6000 to 12,000 while a 12 percent fee waiver will be applicable for a fee from Rs. 12,001 to 24,000. A 15 percent fee waiver will be applicable for a fee from Rs. 24,001 to Rs. 48,000. A fee waiver of 20 percent will be applicable for a fee from Rs. 48.001 to 72,000 followed by a 25 percent waiver for a fee from Rs. 72,001 to Rs, 1,00,00 and 26 percent for fee from Rs. 1,00,000. According to the fee waivers, residential schools will have a 30 percent waiver for hostel fees.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, parents and students have been asking the respective schools and colleges to provide a waiver for fee payment since the pandemic has caused a lot of financial losses. State governments have thus asked the schools and colleges to reduce the fee for the students during the pandemic period and provide the students with buffer time to pay the fee.REGISTER FOR RESULTS UPDATES
