The Odisha Secondary School Teachers Association has demanded a Rs. 50 lakh insurance cover for the teachers who have been assigned to complete the evaluation process for the board examination answer sheets for this year's matriculate exams.
Secretary of the School Teachers Association, Prakash Mohanty said that the Odisha state government should announce the insurance cover before the evaluation process for the Class 10 examinations commence on May 20, 2020.
The School Teachers Association has also demanded that the number of evaluation centres in the state be increased. While addressing the issue, Mohanty stated that an evaluation centre should be opened in each of the 314 blocks of the state in order to make the travelling of teachers to the evaluation centres easy during the lockdown. Mohanty pointed out that there are currently only 60 evaluation centres across the state or the evaluation process of the board examination answer sheets.
The evaluation process for the Matriculation (Class 10) Examinations in Odisha were already underway in March 2020 when the government announced the nationwide lockdown due to which the evaluations were postponed.
The Odisha state government conducted the Class 10 examinations for the Odia Medium Schools in February-March 2020 with 5.5 lakhs students appearing for the examination.
Earlier reports also suggest that in order to speed up the process of evaluation, the Odisha board has decided to engage 6000 additional teachers for the evaluation process. Earlier, the board had appointed 17,000 examiners for the evaluation process and the evaluators have been asked to report at the respective evaluation centres by May 19, 2020.
The board has also assured that the evaluation process for the Odisha Board Matriculate Examination will be conducted by following the guidelines issued for the COVID-19 outbreak including social distancing, wearing masks and washing hands.REGISTER FOR RESULTS UPDATES
