UGC Guidelines Released for Semester Exam 2020:  Amid rising concerns and protests over holding of the University / College Exams for Final Year Students, UGC released its guidelines for the final year semester exams yesterday. According to the revised guidelines released on 6th July 2020 late evening, the universities regulator, the Final Semester Exams for students have been mandatory and are to be held compulsorily for all the students who are currently in their terminal semester. However, the timeline for holding the exam has been relaxed so far with Universities having the option to hold the pending examinations by end of September 2020. Earlier yesterday, Home Ministry also granted permission to the Higher Education Secretaries to guide varsities across the countries to hold the pending semester exams amid the on-going restrictions due to COVID-19 pandemic.

    UGC Guidelines 2020 Live Updates: Special Exams for Students Who Miss Out Current Exams

    The UGC guidelines released today also confirmed that universities and higher education institutions will have to make the arrangements to hold special exams for students who miss out to appear in the current exams that will be held before September 2020. Universities will have the right to decide when and how these special exams will be held for pending students. However, this provision will be applicable only for the current academic session of 2019-20, as a one-time measure.

    UGC Guidelines 2020 Live Updates: Exams Mandatory for Backlog Students

    In addition to the regular students, UGC has also directed all the students who currently have backlog in their final year to mandatorily apppear for the exams in online / offline or blended form, as per feasibility and suitability.

    UGC Guidelines 2020 Live Updates: AAP MP asks HRD Minister to Cancel Delhi University OBE

    The latest in terms of pending semester exams for university and college students, AAP MP Sanjay Singh has sent a written request to Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ for cancellation of DU OBT Exam or Open Book Test. As per the latest announcement by Delhi University, the semester examination are to be held from 10th July 2020 for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

    As per sources close to the government authorities, the HRD Ministry and UGC officials are favouring a unified matrix that will be followed for the promotion of all college and university students across the country because of the cancellation of the semester examination this year.     Media reports indicate that students from West Bengal state have reached out to chief minister Mamata Banerjee, seeking clarity about the semester exams and if they are to be held in the future.     Over the weekend, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh announced that his government has decided to cancel all the pending university and college level exams for undergraduate and postgraduate level students in the state. The decision was taken by the government after evaluating all the parameters, including logistical feasibility of holding the exams and the risk it poses to the students. However, the state government has allowed universities to hold online exams, which are currently underway without any interruption.
